The Pasubio massif is one of the “sacred” mountains of the Italian Great War: its picks and its “teeth” surpass the 2000-meter-high altitude, so it was decided to make the “Ossario” in an area easy to reach and more equipped to accommodate annual commemorations, which are generally held on the first Sunday of July. The war memorial, also visible from a large distance, is preceded by a large square where various pieces of artillery are placed: this is a prestigious rationalist building. www.ossariodelpasubio.it

The hermitage is reached by walking a short path and a staircase of 102 steps. Dug directly into the rock, San Colombano’s hermitage is built half-height over a 120-meter-high slope. Protected by the weather from a natural rock roof is dedicated to the saint who, according to legend, as a young knight killed the dragon that caused the death of children baptized in the waters of the underlying Leno stream. The hermitage seems to have been inhabited since the year 753; the date of construction of the church and of the annexe hermitage dates back to the X century.
